Coffee and Origen’s Hexapla at Southeastern

14
Please, excuse this blatant, self-promoting announcement. I felt compelled to post this one because presentations on Origen’s magnum opus rarely, if ever, occur outside the confines of the academic guild. And I’m sure these venues, if they exist at all, never provide coffee and take place in such a beautiful setting as Southeastern’s library and campus. I plan to talk on what the Hexapla was and why it matters to us today and to hang around afterwards for coffee and conversation. If you are in North Carolina’s Triangle area on March 22 at 2:00pm, make your way over to Southeastern’s library. The event is free, and I’m told that seating is limited, so you will need to register here.

  1. When will such an event happen in Central Illinois? Yes, I said Central... too many events like this if they do happen in Illinois only happen in Chicago!

I hope you get a great turnout! If I was near Chapel Hill I would make an effort to go.

  2. I will see if I can gather up some students and we'll come up and attend.

    1. Andrew, I had no idea (forgive me) that you were teaching at Shepherd's Theological Seminary in Cary, NC. It would be great to meet you and your students in person. Blessings, John

    2. We're fairly close neighbors (SEBTS and STS). I actually caught the textual criticism bug at Southeastern when David Black hosted the endings of Mark conference back in 2007.

It will be good to meet!

    3. That's excellent! David has been a very kind host to me here this semester.

    4. Andrew, I was at that conference too! I had caught the bug already but that only made it worse.

    5. Peter, you mean you knew me before I was dubbed the Silver-Haired Assassin? I am shocked....

    6. Peter: How interesting! I wonder how many others were likewise inspired?

Maurice: Ok, that's a (very cool) nickname that needs explaining...

    7. I did, MAR. In fact, I believe I bought two discounted copies of your 2005 Byz edition at that conference, one for me and one for my Greek prof at Moody.

    8. Peter: And that at a time when I didn't know you from Tischendorf!

Andrew: Blame Chris Keith for the SHA moniker.

  3. I honestly think Origen just used it for entertainment. It has no worth otherwise.

Or polemic, to be more accurate :)
