Review of Codex Sinaiticus On-line

2
As you may have noticed, Codex Sinaiticus (or parts of it) is now on-line here. Apparently, as the web-site was launched too many people tried to access the page. People trying to log in got the following message:

“Too many concurrent connections (> 100.000). The manuscript page is temporarily unavailable. Please try again later.”

John Hobbins notified me of his review of the website on his blog Ancient Hebrew Poetry here.

  1. It must be both popular and a bit under-powered, since three times I have failed to get much joy out of it. I can see that the pictures are great though.

  2. Readers may be interested in attending one of the Digital Classicist Seminar's at the Institute of Classical Studies on Friday Aug 1st at 4:30pm. The session is entitled 'Digital Classicist: Digitizing the oldest complete Greek Bible: The Codex Sinaiticus project' and is being held at Senate House Malet St. London, WC1E 7HU, in room NG16. The presentation is being made by Juan Garces (British Library), whom I met a few months ago.

If that is not enough to entice attendance, then maybe the 'wine and refreshments' will be some sort of incentive.
