New Nahal Hever LXX Fragments of the Minor Prophets

5

The major media outlets are abuzz today with the news that Israel has announced additional fragments of the Dead Sea Scrolls. Specifically, these are new fragments of the Nahal Hever Minor Prophets scroll (8HevXII gr). They also discovered a very old basket, arrow heads and spear tips, and the remains of a child. Readers may know the Nahal Hever scroll because it has a nice example of the Tetragrammaton in paleo-Hebrew script. There are lots more pictures of the finds at the Times of Israel story.

  1. Hum, is this for real or somebody’s joke like finding “Q” not long ago?

  2. Does anyone know where you can see really good photos of the text?

  3. Perhaps among the best, so far, including no. 24 and video from the IAA:

    1. No. 24 appears to be the fragment containing text from Zechariah 8:16-17. Preliminary transcription:

The two variants are the replacement of εκαστος with ανηρ, more closely following the Hebrew אִ֣ישׁ/man.

    2. This would mean this fragment would come from the bottom of the column previous to the left-hand side one here https://www.deadseascrolls.org.il/explore-the-archive/image/B-371385

The top five lines of the first one on the left would likely contain end of v17, whole of v18, and v19 until you see the extant portion of the fourth νηστεια
