Trouble Commenting on the Blog

8

If you’ve been having trouble commenting on the blog using your Google account, as I have, it may be because of your cookie settings. From Blogger’s help files:

Blogger uses third-party cookies so you can comment from your Google Account. If third-party cookies are disabled on your browser, you may not be able to comment on blog posts while you’re signed in. You can still comment anonymously, or with a name and URL.

In Chrome, which stats say most of you are using to read this, you can enable third-party cookies by going to Settings > Privacy and security and then select either Allow all cookies or Block third-party cookies in Incognito.

If you don’t want to allow any third-party cookies, you should still be able to comment by choosing Comment as Name/URL in the commenting dropdown.

If this works for you, could you leave a comment and let me know?

As a final word, please keep your comments on topic

Although I never changed any settings that previously worked, I now get the message "Unable to sign in to comment. Please check your browser configurations to allow sign-in. Learn more. You can still comment anonymously or with name and URL."

    1. Maurice, that means your browser is blocking third-party cookies. See above for how to turn that off—if you want to.

What is the point of commenting if one’s comments are going to be censored?

  4. Thanks for the heads up. I had that problem when I tried to post my on topic questions about Brent Nongbri and his article. I just used the Comment as Name/URL dropdown instead.

I am using Brave rather than Chrome, but its settings and options appear to be the same as Chrome. I am sure your recommendations will work, but since I seldom comment here, I will just continue to use the Comment as Name/URL function.

    Thanks again.

  5. Using Chrome, no problem... But I previously used only Samsung Internet, and never had the problems until recently, with no changes to setting involved. Go figure.
