New Commentary on Hebrews
Finally, my new commentary on Hebrews is out (in Swedish), With Eyes Fixed on Jesus: The Epistle to the Hebrews. Tomorrow we will have a release party at Örebro Theological Seminary, when I will present the commentary, be interviewed, and hopefully sign some copies.
The commentary is the fifth in the Swedish commentary series Nya testamentets budskap (The Message of the New Testament). I would characterize it as an intermediate level commentary.
For Scandinavian readers who want to order the book, go here (Sweden); here (Norway); here (Denmark); here (Finland).
(I can't read Swedish.)
ReplyDeleteSo what's your approach on 2:9 and 11:11?
Yours in Christ,
James Snapp, Jr.
Jim, I am afraid I'll have to disappoint you. There is hardly any TC in this commentary (of course not my decision). However, in due time I will approach 2:9 and 11:11 :-). Especially the former being one of Ehrman's main examples of "Anti-Separationist Corruptions of Scripture." Right now, however, I have not been able to separate myself from Mark 1:1.
ReplyDeleteAny plans for an English edition :-)
ReplyDeleteI am open to suggestions.
ReplyDeleteTommy, I, along with many others try to get our hands on whatever Hebrews commentary we see. In my opinion, its the deepest and most profound book in the Bible. So i'd love to get my hands on a copy if it ever comes out in English!
ReplyDeleteOne question: in your exegesis of 1:10-12, do you mention the LXX background where it has YHWH speaking to another as opposed to the MT, where the Psalmist directing his prayer to YHWH?
William Lane, in the WBC brings this out, but doesn't go into much depth. It certainly has some implications on whether Psalm 102:25-27 is to be looked at as a passage uniquely to YHWH when the LXX translators viewed it as YHWH speaking to another.
Congratulations! I am sorry I cannot be there for the happening. I am in Uppsala teaching. I will approach you with a copy for you to sign later.
ReplyDeleteMike,

Yes, I say that the previous verse in the LXX Psalm opens for a Christological interpretation so that here (in Hebrews) God speaks to the Son with the epithet "Lord", as in Ps 110:1 ... etc.

ReplyDeleteThanks Daniel, I ought to have written out the title. (I have added it in the main post now.)
