I thought that this was a joke at first, until I realized that it was in fact a reproduction. The same EBay store also sells a reproduction of a Kassite cuneiform seal and Gears of War II (used) for your XBOX 360.
Wow, what a price! I mean that's rather high for such a reproduction.
I think it would be rather easy to make for much cheaper.
First I'd download the best quality image of p52 I could find, and then email it to my neighbourhood copy store. Have the copy store colour print it onto some nice parchment like paper. Then I'd spray glue it to a piece of 1/4" hardboard, scroll saw that out, a few seconds of hand sanding around the edges to make it smooth, and then I'd blast the whole thing would a couple coats of spray-on polyurethane, just to preserve and protect it.
In total it would take about an hour of time, and the cost? The photocopying is usually $1.25 for the colour copy, plus another $2 for fancy paper, plus another $2 for an off-cut of hardboard at the home depot, so I'm looking at a total cost of $5.25 cdn, or about 3 euro. (if you didn't already have the spray glue and polyurethane on hand, that would increase the cost of course, but not by much, and those are good products to have on hand anyway. I already have a scroll saw in my shop too, but if you didn't, a $5 coping saw from the hardware store would work just as well.)
In fact, now that I think about it, I might just do that for a couple of the more popular ms fragments. They would be nice things to be able to pass around in class.
I did a replica of P52 years ago, it did not take very long. It has been quite useful to show to students, etc. On time when I showed it to a colleague at the seminary (without saying it was a replica) he asked how I could receive permission to borrow it.
It looks a bit big to me.
ReplyDeleteAnd a bit red. And a bit wooden.

This shows where my mind was, when I first read the title of your post, I thought you were selling your old Playstation 2 (PS2) on Ebay.
ReplyDeleteWhew, are comps done yet?
