Fast dictionaries go online
Payne Smith's Syriac dictionary, Crum's Coptic dictionary, Gesenius' Hebrew dictionary, and Jastrow's Aramaic dictionary have recently been put online at Tyndale House. Unlike most online dictionaries, these are faster to use than the paper copies since you can click the letter you want on the left hand side.
Very nice! Thanks to those involved for doing this.
ReplyDeleteAll the work of David Instone-Brewer.
ReplyDeleteThese are really nice. When they are loading it says something like "If loading is slow you may want to purchase the CD," is there a CD version of the HTML with the same interface? -John Quant
ReplyDeleteThe page is still under construction and I imagine that further details will appear with time.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the heads up. One only wishes that more up to date dictionaries might be included.
ReplyDeleteVery nice! For the Syriac it would be generally useful to have the option for the entries appear in a Serto font; i.e. the letter forms that most of us learn, and that most manuscripts contain.
