I never noticed the "problem," which appears not to be such a problem after all.

Still the problem is not in the expression περι παντων itself, which occurs 14 other times in the NT, but in the supposed idiom (admittedly itself a hermeneutical question) that apparently everywhere else was expressed with προ παντων. But perhaps he just wanted to say in/concerning everything and not "above all." :-)Jonathan C. A quick search on the papyri.info site revealed that περὶ πάντων is found in

BGU 3.698 (II CE)
BGU 3.885 (I CE) (this was already noted)
BGU 8.1764 (64-44 BCE) !!!
CHR.MITT 91 (157-159 CE)
CHR.MITT 306 (155 CE)
P.CAIR.ZEN 3.59300 (250 BCE) !!!

and so forth (too many hits).

However, one should read those texts to see if the idiom has the same meaning in context or not (I have no time now). But it seems that the word combination is not so odd after all.Timo Flinknoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-17859011.post-79228531098668261152012-07-12T11:43:22.142+01:002012-07-12T11:43:22.142+01:00This comment has been removed by the author.Peter M.
